I got these done around the end of november, by an amazing guy named Mike at Golden Monkey Tattoo (Fredericksburg, VA). I did a lot of research into tattoos and tattooing where I discovered that sailors pretty much popularized the art. Each tattoo they got represented a place they had been or a feat they had conquered. I soon learned that they used to tattoo their feet; a cock on the right and a pig on the left. “A cock on the right, never lose a fight. A pig below the knee, safety at sea.” They also believed that since both animals feared water, having them tattooed on their feet would prevent them from drowning if they ever went overboard. I loved this concept because I wanted a tattoo with a back-story, not one that just “looks cool”.
